Jeffrey L. Leavell was admitted to the Bar in 1983. He graduated from the University of Chicago, with honors, in 1980, and the University of Wisconsin Law School, J.D., cum laude, in 1983. He was judicial law clerk for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals District IV from 1983-1985.

He served on the Board of Directors, and was President of the Wisconsin Defense Counsel, and is a former Chairman of the State of Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, American Bar Association, State Bar of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Defense Counsel. He served on the Board of Governors of the Racine Country Bar Association and is President of the Racine County Bar Association.

Mr. Leavell is a frequent lecturer and author. His articles in the Wisconsin State Bar publication include: “Appellate Review: Choosing and Shaping the Proper Standard,” Wisconsin Bar Bulletin 14, April 1987; “Changing Standards of Appellate Review,” Wisconsin Bar Bulletin 25, May 1987; “Recovering Your Environmental Cleanup Costs,” Wisconsin Lawyer 16, May 1990; “CERCLA: Tort Law Defenses,” Wisconsin Lawyer 18, April 1994. Leavell authored “Defendants Will Face Environmental Claims That Pose RCRA Liability in Addition to CERCLA Liability” in the Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin News, Fall, 1997. He authored “The Stimac Decision: Cutting Corners on the Four-Corners Rule” in the Wisconsin Civil Trial Journal, Summer, 2017, and “Managing the Duty to Defend and Some Practical Approaches” in the Wisconsin Civil Trial Journal, Winter, 2016. He spoke at the Spring, 1994 Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin Conference on “Environmental Litigation: Various Liability Rules and Remedies for Hazardous Substances,” the Greater Milwaukee Chapter of CPCU 28th Annual Seminar on “Wisconsin Environmental Litigation and Coverage,” November 4, 1994, and its 29th Annual Seminar on “Employer Liability and Insurance,” November 2, 1995, the 1996 Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin Conference on “Insurance Company Files: What Can or Should Be Protected,” the 1999 Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin Annual Convention on “How to Win Coverage Litigation” and “Environmental Coverage Trends.” He spoke at the Summer, 2007 Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin Conference on “Evaluating Claims,” at the Wisconsin Claims Council 2009 Spring Conference on “Investigating and Defending Slip and Fall Claims Using Jury Instruction,” at the Wisconsin Defense Counsel Summer 2010 Conference on “Litigating Indemnity Agreements and Additional Insured Endorsements.”, and he presented “Damages and Costs Relating to the Duty to Defend” at the Spring 2015 Wisconsin Defense Counsel Conference. He presented on April 12, 2017, “The Underwriter and the Lawyer,” at the Wisconsin Federation of Insurance Companies Meeting. He presented at the Wisconsin State Bar of Wisconsin’s insurance seminar, “We’ve Got You Covered: Insurance Coverage in Wisconsin 2019″ and most recently, at the “We’ve Got You Covered: Insurance Coverage in Wisconsin 2020” on the subject of Construction Defect Framework.
